We held our mock conference on “Effective Altruism” this week as part of our interpreting training at the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies, Boğaziçi University.

This semester’s event was held mid-semester, offering our students an earlier opportunity to engage with real-life conference settings and further develop their simultaneous interpreting skills.

The conference brought together our undergraduate and graduate interpreting students, who successfully delivered simultaneous interpreting throughout the sessions in both Turkish and English.

We were honored to host our speakers — Pınar İlkiz (Founding Partner at Pikan Ajans) and Hatice Kübra Çetin (Co-chair of the Effective Altruism Club at Boğaziçi University)— and our moderator, Prof. Dr. Fatoş Erkman (Emerita, Boğaziçi University, Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling), whose valuable contributions made the event both insightful and engaging.

We were also delighted to welcome Francisco Falcão (European Parliament, Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences) and Prof. Małgorzata Tryuk (University of Warsaw, EMCI), and would like to thank them for their visit and valuable presence.

Our special thanks go to Bahar Çotur for her invaluable role in organizing the conference. Our sincere thanks also go to our interpreting instructors — Prof. Dr. Ebru Diriker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jonathan Ross, Nedime Mercangöz, and Hande Güner — and research assistants – Zeynep Kürük Erçetin, Emine Özdemir, Fırat Ceylan - for their continuous support throughout the process.

Congratulations to all our students! Your professionalism, dedication, and performance were truly commendable!
